Sony has announced price increases for its PlayStation Plus subscription service, citing 'ongoing market conditions.' The service, which provides PS4 and PS5 owners with online multiplayer, monthly free games, and exclusive discounts, will see new customers paying more starting May 20 in select regions. The new rates are $10.99 / €9.99 / £7.99 for a one-month subscription (up $1) and $27.99 / €27.99 / £21.99 for three months (up $3). Current subscribers are unaffected unless their plan changes or lapses, except in Turkey and India. The price hike follows Sony's PS5 console price increase in March and comes amid broader industry cost pressures. Notably, the increase arrives six months before the anticipated release of GTA 6, which is expected to drive a surge of new console owners—many of whom will need PlayStation Plus to play GTA Online. Sony may be capitalizing on this upcoming demand. Despite forecasting a 6% drop in gaming revenue for the fiscal year, Sony expects profit to rise 30% thanks to higher first-party software sales, including the upcoming Insomniac's Wolverine game, and the absence of a major impairment loss from Bungie.
