Games Workshop has confirmed that Ork Warboss Nazdreg Ug Urdgrub is not only receiving a new miniature for the Warhammer 40,000 tabletop game but will also appear in Creative Assembly's upcoming strategy title, Total War: Warhammer 40,000.

Nazdreg leads the Bad Moon clan, ranking just behind the all-conquering Ghazghkull Thraka, the mighty prophet of the Waaagh!, among Ork characters. In a post on Warhammer Community, GW unveiled Nazdreg's impressive miniature, featuring his Kustom Blasta X and Bad Moon banner, along with a screenshot of his in-game model for Total War: Warhammer 40,000.

This is a long-awaited return for fan-favorite Nazdreg, who hasn't had a model release this century despite being a prominent figure in the lore. His appearance in Total War: Warhammer 40,000 marks a major comeback.

Nazdreg has a history on Armageddon, the war-torn world central to the 11th edition narrative. Armageddon's influence extends into Total War: Warhammer 40,000, not only through characters but also through the planet itself.

GW stated that Nazdreg will be one of the "key characters" players can battle with and against in Total War: Warhammer 40,000. He will feature "heavily in some of the early in-game narrative, in events that tie in to the ongoing pivotal battles around Armageddon."

Nazdreg joins other confirmed named characters: Marneus Calgar, leader of the Ultramarines Space Marine chapter; Commissar Sebastian Yarrick of the Astra Militarum; and the aforementioned Ghazghkull Thraka. Yarrick and Ghazghkull share a deep history of mutual respect born from endless war, making their inevitable clash in Total War a thrilling prospect.

More named characters are expected to be announced. With only one Space Marine and one Astra Militarum character confirmed so far, additions like Ursula Creed, Lord Castellan of Cadia, seem likely. The Aeldari are a launch faction, so two space elves are probable—Eldrad Ulthran, one of the most powerful Aeldari psykers, and Asurmen, the legendary Phoenix Lord of the Dire Avengers, are strong candidates. However, CA has a vast pool of iconic characters from Warhammer 40,000 lore to draw from.

Could Total War: Warhammer 40,000 feature a primarch? A character of such overwhelming power might feel unbalanced, but Dawn of War 4 includes Dark Angels primarch Lion El'Jonson as a playable unit in specific campaign moments. Could Roboute Guilliman make a similar "cameo" appearance?

It remains unclear how these named characters will function in Total War: Warhammer 40,000, or how Armageddon will fit into the overall campaign. GW's description of Nazdreg as a "key character" for battles and narrative may apply to others as well.

In previous Total War: Warhammer games, Creative Assembly introduced Legendary Lords (LLs)—powerful characters from Warhammer Fantasy lore that lead unique factions in campaign, multiplayer, and custom battles. It's possible that these 40k named characters will operate similarly.

Total War: Warhammer 40,000 is slated for release on PC and console, with no launch window announced yet.
