Ubisoft has officially confirmed the existence of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced, the highly anticipated remake that has been the subject of speculation for years. The company revealed the first piece of concept art in a blog post that also detailed the future of the blockbuster franchise, including the winding down of post-launch support for Assassin's Creed Shadows.
While Ubisoft's focus is shifting toward the future, the next all-new entry in the series, Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe, appears to be some distance away. In the interim, the company has finally acknowledged the upcoming Assassin's Creed: Black Flag remake, which is expected to launch later this year.
In a playful nod to the series' lore, Ubisoft stated, "Speculation around Assassin's Creed is not new, but it's worth repeating: 'Nothing is true. Everything is permitted.' Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon. 🦜"
The official name, Assassin's Creed: Black Flag Resynced, first emerged last December through a European ratings board listing. This followed years of internal leaks, extensive fan speculation, and even hints from the original game's lead actor, all pointing to the project's development.
Reports indicate that Black Flag Resynced will be a comprehensive remake of the beloved pirate-themed entry, featuring visual and gameplay enhancements that bring it closer in quality to last year's Assassin's Creed Shadows. New story content is expected to expand on protagonist Edward Kenway's life, though the modern-day gameplay sections have reportedly been removed—a change that has disappointed many fans. It remains to be seen how Ubisoft will adjust the game's ending, which previously connected historical and modern-day narratives, in light of this alteration.
Previously, Ubisoft had only hinted at the remake's arrival by noting an unannounced game scheduled for release before the end of its current financial year (March 31). However, in January, the game was delayed into the next financial year (ending March 31, 2027) due to a major reorganization of teams, projects, and studios within the company.
