The seventh update for Wreckfest 2, which entered Steam Early Access in March 2025, is a major one. It introduces a new track location, significant upgrades to vehicle physics and destruction systems, a new race mode, and a comprehensive tuning system. Additionally, it adds two-and-a-half new vehicles.
The new cars are the Stahlwagen (inspired by a turn-of-the-century Mercedes-Benz E-Class wagon), the Valken (inspired by the '90s Saab 900), and the 'Half a Crusader'—a chopped-in-half novelty version of the Chevrolet Cavalier-like Crusader that drags itself around on its front wheels.
The US-based track location adds three tracks: an oval, a traditional race circuit, and a short sprint course. The oval is ideal for the new Suicide Race mode, where half the field races clockwise and the other half counter-clockwise. Veterans of demolition gaming may recall a similar mode in the underrated Test Drive: Eve of Destruction (also known as Driven to Destruction in PAL regions). Hopefully, developer Bugbear finds more inspiration from that 2004 classic, which featured trailer races, flagpole races, and more.
Update 7 also brings major improvements to visual damage and collision physics, and introduces a comprehensive tuning system for the first time. Players can adjust steering, suspension, brakes, gearing, differential settings, and more. Custom tuning configurations can be saved as presets and are fully usable in multiplayer lobbies.
The full version of Wreckfest 2 will also come to consoles after leaving Steam Early Access on PC, though no release date has been confirmed yet.
