Pragmata's 'AI-Generated' New York Stage Is Actually Handcrafted by Humans

7d52752f.png

It feels like every other week brings news of developers using generative AI to create game assets, or at least seriously considering it. That's why the latest interview with the Pragmata development team caught my attention—they revealed they're manually crafting one of the game's levels to mimic an AI-generated aesthetic, even though it's entirely human-made.

They discussed Pragmata's New York City-inspired stage, intentionally designed to give players the impression it was created by AI. (You can catch glimpses of this stage in the trailer below.)

'I Don't Want to Repeat That' - Baldur's Gate 3's Astarion Actor Seeks New Challenges Beyond Similar Roles

ffe90bfe.png

Neil Newbon's portrayal of Astarion in Baldur's Gate 3 stands out as one of the game's most unforgettable performances, which is no small feat given the stellar cast. While Newbon takes pride in his work as Astarion, he's not keen on revisiting that type of role repeatedly, drawing inspiration from David Bowie's philosophy.

In a conversation with FRVR, Newbon discussed how Bowie and Iggy Pop influenced him from a young age. "There's definitely a Bowie rhythm in me. I'd love to portray him in Labyrinth or star in a biopic," he remarked, noting he'd "definitely play Jareth in Labyrinth if offered the chance."

He emphasized a key lesson from Bowie: "repetition breeds stagnation," advocating for actors to push their...

Authors Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck have earned acclaim for crafting a setting that strives to align with our current understanding of physics, a commitment faithfully mirrored in the television adaptation.

A key aspect of this realism is the portrayal of space travel. In this universe, a substance called "The Juice" is administered to crew members strapped into Crash Couches to help them endure the intense G-forces of high-speed maneuvers. Beyond this, journeys between destinations are depicted as taking a realistic amount of time—spanning days, weeks, or even months—depending on factors like distance, acceleration,...
