Where Winds Meet is transporting players back to the Tang Dynasty, described as 'one of China's most glorious eras,' with its upcoming Hexi expansion. This major free update launches on March 5.

From March through May, the development team will roll out the expansion's three chapters sequentially, guiding wanderers 'from desert to ice fields to grasslands.' The journey begins with the Jade Gate Pass chapter next week.

'In ancient China, friends would compose poems for each other. Consider these three chapters our poetic gift to all of you,' the team shared, highlighting that this represents 'a much more cinematic approach to storytelling' that feels 'quite different from our previous narrative style.'

Developer Everstone Games describes the Hexi expansion, set in an expansive desert landscape, as the 'biggest expansion since the game's launch.' It introduces brand-new stories, bosses, gameplay features, and martial arts styles. Players can explore three major maps comprising nearly 20 sub-regions, face 11 unique bosses, discover seven Jianghu Legacies, tackle 'dozens' of side quests, and more. A new path called Bamboocut-Dust adds two fresh martial arts: Umbrella's Spring Dreamscape, focused on agility, and Rope Dart's Fleeting Clouds, specializing in wide area-of-effect attacks.

The recent showcase stream detailed several boss encounters, including Jade Gate Pass's campaign boss, Guo Xin—an aging general and last grand protector who 'remains at his post defending the land to the very end.' He attacks with sweeping combos and summons veterans to aid him, requiring players to master deflection techniques. In his second phase, 'sands swirl and time reverses' as the memory of his army 'restores him to his prime,' unleashing his full power.

Viewers also glimpsed the Wandering Ark, a massive ship once used as a messenger, now obsessed with finding its way home across the desert. After the main presentation, the stream featured a segment of the battle against the Hexi's Moongazing Maiden boss, where all skills and weapons are moon-themed.

While the desert was the primary focus, the stream briefly visited the upcoming Liangzhou and Qingchuan maps. Liangzhou is a city famed for fine wine and precious jade in the game's first snow mountain region, while Qingchuan—the final destination—cycles through all four seasons on a single map, with warring factions at every turn.

Importantly, Everstone confirmed that all player progress—including character levels, talents, and arsenals—carries over between seasons, so there's 'no need to start from scratch.'

In addition to the expansion content, Everstone announced numerous quality-of-life updates. Pre-downloads for the Hexi expansion are available starting today, February 27.

'To summarize, Hexi is a cinematic open-world experience with three chapters and tons of creative storytelling. We truly hope this passion project brings something fresh to all of you,' the team concluded.

Where Winds Meet, a Wuxia open-world action-adventure RPG set in ancient China, launched on PC and PlayStation 5 on November 14, attracting over 9 million players within two weeks. A mobile version followed on December 12.

Players have already found inventive and amusing ways to interact with the game's chatbot NPCs, such as solving riddles by simply informing the AI-powered characters that they've already cracked the puzzles.
