Bethesda has officially confirmed that a patch for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is on the way, following the release of the Nintendo Switch 2 version. The PC version has been without an update since July 2025 and continues to suffer from issues that were present at launch, including performance degradation over time. In May 2025, Digital Foundry highlighted significant performance problems such as hitches in the open world, frame-rate drops, and a gradual decline in performance possibly due to a memory leak. A follow-up analysis in May 2026 found many of the same issues persisting. The game holds a 'mostly positive' rating on Steam overall, but recent reviews are 'mixed,' with some players calling it 'abandonware.' Bethesda responded to fan feedback, stating that optimizations from the Switch 2 version will be brought to other platforms, though details remain vague. Fans have reacted positively to the announcement, expressing hope that the patch will be substantial. Oblivion Remastered, developed with Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, has attracted over 9 million players, and Bethesda's Todd Howard expressed satisfaction with its performance, making the lack of updates since July 2025 puzzling.
