BlizzCon 2026 Opening Ceremony Live Blog: Warcraft and Diablo Future Unveiled, StarCraft Speculation Swirls

BlizzCon 2026 has arrived, and IGN is bringing you live coverage of all the announcements straight from the opening ceremony.

The studio behind Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, and Overwatch is gearing up for an Opening Ceremony that has generated more excitement than perhaps any BlizzCon in recent memory. The event begins at 10:30 AM PT / 1:30 PM ET / 6:30 PM UK time, and we'll be reporting all the news from the main stage, with our team on the ground.

So, what can we expect? Blizzard has confirmed that the Opening Ceremony will feature Johanna Faries, President of Blizzard Entertainment, alongside leaders of all Blizzard franchises for "major game announcements." The biggest hope is that Blizzard reveals something StarCraft-related, following strange glitches spotted on the official StarCraft website. This obvious tease has sent fans of the beloved sci-fi real-time strategy series into a frenzy, especially with reports suggesting Blizzard is developing a StarCraft first-person shooter of some kind.

The next major expansion for World of Warcraft is The Last Titan, which follows the recently released Midnight expansion as the final chapter of the Worldsoul Saga. Will Blizzard tease The Last Titan, or focus more on upcoming content for Midnight?

Expect a standout moment for Diablo during the Opening Ceremony. Blizzard has stated that Diablo "takes center stage to reveal extensive plans for the glorious future of Sanctuary." Could we see a tease for a new Diablo 4 expansion or class?

Overwatch fans, meanwhile, are hoping for news of a new hero, given Blizzard's ongoing plan to release 10 new heroes this year.

The show itself runs for a hefty 75 minutes, so there should be plenty to get fans excited. As a huge fan of Blizzard games, especially Warcraft and Diablo, I'm hopeful we'll get some big news on both of those series in particular. Developer update panels will follow the opening ceremony, so deeper dives are coming for hardcore fans to enjoy.
