Bungie Vows More Destiny Content Despite Recent End of Destiny 2 Support

In a surprising turn, Bungie has declared it is "absolutely not done with Destiny" just months after the controversial decision to halt ongoing support for Destiny 2.

A five-minute video featuring Bungie studio head Poria Torkan and head of product and GM of Marathon Josh Deane addresses fans directly. The executives assure that Sony has not abandoned the Destiny franchise, following months of fan pleas for either a return to Destiny 2 or the creation of Destiny 3.

"We're not asking for your trust," Torkan said, acknowledging Bungie's recent difficulties. "We know we have to earn it, and to do that, we need our games to deliver in ways that exceed your expectations of what you've come to love about the games that we make – and that starts with Destiny."

"Bungie wouldn't be what it is today without it. It's the foundation upon which everything else rests, and we are absolutely not done with Destiny. We have more stories to tell, but we have to do it right and give our teams the time they need to do justice to this amazing universe."

Deane clarified that Bungie's aim is to "return Destiny to its original promise." This involves recapturing "awe-inspiring mystery, the sense of discovery, and the promise of a community of Guardians rallying together, raging against impossible odds."

The past few months have been tough for dedicated Destiny and Destiny 2 players, especially after substantial support ended with the Monument of Triumph update in June. Rebuilding that community and trust will take considerable time.

"I wish we could just flip a freaking switch, but we're going to commit to unvaulting the Destiny 2 campaigns, the destinations, the raids that never should have been ripped away to begin with," Deane added. "They were an essential part of our journey together and definitely a place where we built memories with y'all."

Bungie also posted additional details on its website. In a section titled "Destiny Is Foundational to Our Future," the team highlighted the players who rallied to give Destiny another chance. Amid uncertainty, feedback, and livestream chat takeovers, it appears the leadership heard fans clearly.

"Your voices mattered, and the way you showed up made a real impact," the message read. "You reminded everyone how much this world, its history, and its future still mean to you."

As teased in the video, the first step toward more Destiny stories is unvaulting previously locked experiences. The studio admitted that vaulting certain content "had a lasting impact on player trust and enjoyment of Destiny," adding that "Destiny 2 is more than just the content itself."

"It is a place where players have built memories together, formed lasting friendships, and shared experiences that have stayed with them for years. We cannot change the decision we made, but we can acknowledge its impact and do the work to make it right by restoring these important parts of Destiny’s history.

So, what does this mean? While fans may not want to get their hopes up that this video confirms Destiny 3 just yet, Deane did say the plan is to deliver "new Destiny stories and games" that players deserve.
