Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Beta Gets Surprise Update to Tackle Spawn Issues

Infinity Ward has rolled out an unscheduled update for the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta in a bid to swiftly respond to player feedback.

As the first beta weekend for Modern Warfare 4 draws to a close, Infinity Ward has deployed a last-minute update aimed at improving spawns. This isn't the final spawn fix for the beta, but rather an "early piece" of a larger overhaul, ensuring players aren't left frustrated during the beta's final hours. The fix is currently live across all modes except Hardpoint, which will receive its own adjustments during the second beta weekend.

"We were supposed to be done with updates today…Supposed to be. We pushed out an early piece of the larger spawn improvements we’re working on. It’s live now across all modes except Hardpoint. Hardpoint changes will come in Weekend 2. Go run some matches. 🫡"

This is likely just one of many fixes ahead of the second weekend. Players have been vocal about spawn issues, the rapid time-to-kill, and other concerns. Infinity Ward is already proving to be more responsive and receptive to beta feedback compared to its previous Call of Duty title, Modern Warfare 2 (2022). That game faced heavy criticism for ignoring fan input on issues that irked the community. Despite its massive commercial success, it remains one of the most polarizing Call of Duty games in recent memory due to disagreements over its direction.

In a recent interview with IGN, Infinity Ward's Joe Cecot acknowledged the studio's past missteps and promised a different approach with Modern Warfare 4.

"I think in MW2, we definitely didn't communicate as well as we should have," said Cecot. "I think we've remedied that in crazy ways with this project. Even with the amount of stuff that I get sent to my desk to review like, 'Hey, we want to respond to this.' And then I review copy or I'm writing something, it's a huge shift. That's going to continue into live support and I think you see it at our studio head level. [Infinity Ward co-studio head] Mark Grigsby is posting, the Infinity Ward account is posting, the Call of Duty account is posting, and they're all in unison posting. They're not separate from each other. I think it's really powerful and it feels really good to us."

Modern Warfare 4's second beta weekend begins on Friday, August 28 at 10AM PT. The full game launches on October 23, with early access to the campaign starting October 16.
