Call of Duty: Warzone is getting a weather system that will make each match feel distinct. Later this week, the Season 1 update for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will arrive, bringing significant changes to Warzone. Developer Raven Software is adding a wealth of content that aligns with the mechanics and tone that Modern Warfare 4 introduced to the franchise last month. One of the most notable additions is a new weather system, meaning the map might feature rain, wind, or other effects when you drop in.
The weather will be determined before you load into the match, so don't expect dynamic weather cycles like in Grand Theft Auto. The goal is to make Warzone matches feel different every time you play, as the battle royale's maps have remained largely unchanged for the past six years. The weather never changes, which can eventually make the maps feel a bit stale. However, this new system may keep the game consistently interesting, and effects like rain could slightly alter gameplay. It could impact visibility, make your footsteps louder as they splash in puddles, and more.
Earlier this fall, Wardogs also added weather to multiplayer matches, which brought significant gameplay changes. It's a worthy addition to Call of Duty's battle royale and one that fans have long requested. Fans have also wanted a day/night cycle, which could make night-vision goggles a meaningful piece of gear. NVGs are part of the game's DMZ extraction mode, though they're primarily used in enclosed facilities without power.
The new Call of Duty: Warzone update will launch with two new maps on November 6 as part of Modern Warfare 4 Season 1.
