Fortnite is enhancing its Festival mode with a new microphone vocal feature, reminiscent of Rock Band, just as a fresh season kicks off featuring jazz pop sensation Laufey. The singer, known for her hit 'Madwoman,' will debut in the game on April 16, coinciding with the start of the next Fortnite Festival season. This update introduces the ability for players to sing along to any track in the mode using a compatible microphone on PC and console.
Additionally, the update brings a Pro Drums option, allowing players to connect Rock Band 4 or compatible MIDI drum kits. In a user-friendly change, players can now move around while playing instruments in other Fortnite modes, rather than being stationary.
The new Fortnite Festival season includes a Music Pass, available through the Fortnite Crew subscription, which features a Laufey skin and 'Madwoman' as a jam track. A separate Laufey skin will also be available for purchase in Fortnite's shop, along with two other tracks: 'Tough Luck' and 'Lover Girl.'
Tomorrow's update will also make the original Save the World PVE mode free for all players and introduce the next story act for the main battle royale mode.
This comes during a bustling period for Fortnite and developer Epic Games, which is reportedly working on a major Disney extraction shooter mode set to launch later this year, despite recent layoffs affecting 1,000 employees. Industry analysts have been consulted to explore potential challenges facing the studio.
