Mark Gordon, the studio head of Treyarch, is leaving the Call of Duty developer after 22 years. The announcement came via Treyarch's social media, confirming Gordon's departure to start a new, undisclosed chapter in his career. Stepping into his role are Yale Miller and Kevin Hendrickson, both long-time Activision veterans with extensive experience on the Call of Duty franchise.
Gordon's exit follows that of David Vonderhaar, Treyarch's former studio design director known for shaping Black Ops multiplayer, who left a few years ago to found his own studio.
Treyarch isn't expected to release a new Call of Duty game for at least two years, barring any major shifts in the development cycle. Infinity Ward is set to launch Modern Warfare 4 later this year, while Sledgehammer Games is rumored—though not confirmed—to deliver a new entry in 2025.
It remains unclear if Treyarch is working on another Black Ops title. While Black Ops 6 was a success, Black Ops 7 underperformed commercially, marking a downturn for the series. Meanwhile, rumors persist that Activision and Treyarch plan to re-release Black Ops 1 and 2 on modern platforms. Although unconfirmed, listings for these games were discovered in PlayStation's backend.
Treyarch recently updated Black Ops 7 with a new playlist called Black Ops Classic, featuring classic maps and gameplay adjustments to mirror the original Black Ops games. Some speculate this could be a precursor to the rumored re-releases.
