Sega is once again bringing its older games and franchises back into the limelight with a new initiative called Sega Universe. Taglined "No Old, Stay Gold," the program focuses on games and characters "born in the past, transcending generations and borders" that continue to live on, even beyond gaming, Sega stated. "Everything created here remains in someone's memory and is passed on to the next generation," the company said, before presenting a nostalgic YouTube video that takes viewers through misspent youths with OutRun, Sonic the Hedgehog, Rent a Hero, and more, ending with the familiar "Say–GAH!" sound sting. The site lists nine of its most iconic back catalog franchises: Fantasy Zone, OutRun, Streets of Rage, Rent a Hero, Guardian Heroes, Nights Into Dreams, Dynamite Deka, Sakura Wars, and SGGG. Follow the on-screen prompts to unlock cutscenes from these games, complete with a choice of in-game tracks. You'll also find neat summaries introducing the history of these titles and characters as they celebrate anniversaries. Sega has even prepared playlists of tunes to set the mood. It's a truly joyful trip through gaming's past. Head over to the official website to experience it yourself. There's no word yet on what Sega plans to do for each of these games, if anything. Could we see re-releases? Sonic's official 35th anniversary isn't until June, but Sega is already treating 2026 like a victory lap for the blue blur. That means early deals, with Amazon kicking things off with a massive sale on Sonic games, 4K Blu-rays, and comics earlier this month.
