In the newest patch for Marvel's Wolverine, Insomniac has finally introduced a much-requested feature: the ability to toggle the game's visible scent trails on and off. This option is now available as a 'hint' button on the controller.

The update, released on October 6, comes after months of criticism from players who found the scent trails too intrusive and felt they restricted exploration.

On Twitter/X, Insomniac explained that making the scent trails optional was a direct response to community feedback. Players can now choose whether to activate or deactivate them using the Hint button, which is mapped to R3 on the PlayStation 5 controller.

The same applies to other features like audio cues and nightmare roots, giving players the freedom to navigate the environment and discover the Nightmare Cabin on their own.

"Our latest update for Marvel's #WolverinePS5 is live and adds a new 'Hint' toggle for story-related Scent trails based on community feedback!" Insomniac wrote. "With recent updates, you now have more control over the visibility of Scents, Audio Cues, and Nightmare Roots."

This patch also includes fixes for various community-reported crashes and bugs.

The update follows a similar change in late September that allowed players to turn off scent trails for Whiskey Bottles, Material Crate Audio Clues, and Nightmare Door Roots. Before that, Insomniac had reduced the opacity of scent trails to make them less intense.

Insomniac has remained committed to improving Wolverine over time. On September 15, the developer stated it was "actively engaged with our player community and gathering feedback to further refine the player experience."

Players have been vocal about their opinions, making Wolverine one of Insomniac's most debated games, largely due to elements like scent trails and white paint that guide players. Even Wolverine's design sparked discussion, with some questioning whether actor Liam McIntyre was right for the role of the iconic hero. McIntyre, however, was unfazed, drawing on his experience as Spartacus in the mid-2010s.

The latest update for Marvel's Wolverine (1.002.001) introduces a new toggle for story-related Scent trails. Combined with previous updates, players now have greater control over the visibility of Scents, Audio Cues, and Nightmare Roots based on community feedback. This update also addresses community-reported bugs and crashes to enhance overall game stability.
