Minecraft Is Getting Its First New Dimension in Over 14 Years

Minecraft developer Mojang has announced that the Sift is coming to Java and Bedrock Edition in 2027 — the game's first new dimension in over 14 years.

As revealed at Minecraft LIVE September 2026, the Sift, which had been announced for upcoming dungeon crawler Minecraft Dungeons 2, is also coming to Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition next year. It joins the Overworld, The Nether, and The End as Minecraft’s official fourth dimension.

Mojang said next to nothing about the Sift in terms of how it will work in vanilla during Minecraft LIVE, and only teased how it will look during the stream. Here's Mojang's official blurb on the Sift, which briefly touched on the new mob which we can see in the image above.

Perhaps we should look to the Sift in Minecraft Dungeons 2 to get a sense of what to expect. In the dungeon crawler, the Sift is described as "beautiful, vibrant, and teeming with souls." It features areas like the Meadow and the Carapace.
