Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 players are loving the new Black Ops Classic mode, released today as part of the Season 4 update. This limited-time mode removes omnimovement, sliding, and simplifies gameplay to feel more like classic Black Ops titles such as Black Ops 1 and 2. Items like stims, which allow mid-battle healing, are also disabled.

"We wanted to get as close to a classic movement set (Black Ops 2 as a target) as we could, so Omnimovement, Wall Jump, and Slide are restricted in Black Ops Classic along with some additional feature restrictions," said Black Ops 7 design director Matt Scronce on X.

The mode features maps from classic Black Ops games, including Firing Range, Summit, Raid, Nuketown, and more. It's essentially the Black Ops you remember, with updated visuals and different weapons.

Players are enjoying the nostalgic experience. One fan said, "Black Ops Classic is exactly what Black Ops 7 should have been," while another added, "Played one match of Black Ops Classic and yeah I’m gonna need this to be a permanent mode." A third commented, "Very fun and fixes a ton of issues I have with BO7. Almost got a nuke."

Some players find the changes jarring after getting used to modern Call of Duty controls. It remains to be seen if this mode will attract players, arriving eight months after Black Ops 7's launch and four months before Modern Warfare 4. Some may feel it's too little, too late.

Black Ops 7's movement has been controversial, with some feeling omnimovement and wall jumping overcomplicate gameplay. Traditional movement emphasizes gun skill over frantic dodging.

Even if this mode doesn't turn the tide for Black Ops 7, the future looks promising. Modern Warfare 4's multiplayer, which we recently went hands-on with, focuses on fluid but grounded movement without omnimovement.
