Rebel Wolves has crafted something truly unique with The Blood of Dawnwalker, its vampire RPG that explores the blurred line between monster and human. Now, it's getting even better with directional animal petting. Yes, you read that correctly.
Much like Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Dawnwalker's combat relies on directional inputs to attack and defend from various angles. Update 1.1, slated for release next week, will allow you to apply that same system to vigorously pet a dog.
"What happens when you combine a directional combat system with the ability to pet dogs and cats?" the studio pondered. "Directional. Animal. Petting."
The update also introduces a new consumable: the Draught of Mind Rebirth. Take a swig, and you'll be able to respec all your upgrade points and experiment with a different build without restarting the game.
Additionally, the game is getting an even easier mode for those who struggled with directional combat, along with options for larger subtitle font sizes. Accessibility is always a plus.
There are also visual upgrades on the way, including frame generation improvements, enhanced animations and camera movement, better lock-on and targeting, and smoother traversal. The Japanese version of the game has had all its blood and gore reinstated, which is pretty essential for a game about a clan of human-sized leeches.
Rebel Wolves stated that there are over 1,100 other improvements in The Blood of Dawnwalker's update 1.1. That's a substantial number, indicating a high level of dedication. It shouldn't come as a huge surprise, though — the former The Witcher developers envision the game as the foundation for an epic RPG series.
The Dawnwalker team has already hinted at where the series might go in the future, with a CGI trailer showing lead character Coen in the present day. The perks of being an immortal halfbreed, right? The Blood of Dawnwalker surpassed 1 million copies sold within its first two days, suggesting the team will at least get another game out. Whether that takes Coen straight to the present day or jumps to another historical flashpoint like Assassin's Creed remains to be seen.
