Apex Legends: Cipher is set to launch on November 3, and it's introducing a new weapon style that honestly has me worried. The Wingman, a semi-automatic revolver that uses Sniper Ammo, has been a thorn in my side since Apex Legends first came out.
Some players are incredibly skilled with the Wingman, and now they'll be able to wield two at once. Cipher introduces the Akimbo Wingman, which sacrifices some accuracy for increased damage.
The Wingman has seen better days in recent seasons, currently ranking as the 19th most effective weapon in terms of DPS, but it remains lethal in the right hands at almost any range. It takes two to four headshots to secure a kill with the Wingman, depending on the enemy's armor, which is what makes it so dangerous when used by skilled players.
The Akimbo Wingman will force players into closer combat, practically in your face. It will be interesting to see how this new option affects the weapon's standing—after all, the Akimbo Mozambique was famously nerfed shortly after it transformed from a rarely used gun into the game's dominant weapon.
In addition to the dual revolvers, Crypto is getting a rework called Crypto Rewired, which changes his role from a drone-camping camper to a forward-pushing intel machine. His Surveillance Drone now runs on batteries instead of a cooldown, meaning it can be picked up and redeployed without a long wait, and it also gains a new Sentry Mode that tags enemies on sight. Furthermore, his EMP Ultimate can now be deployed with the press of a button.
Cipher also introduces Strongholds, which Respawn describes as the "evolution of care packages." To access them, you must raid the Stronghold to extract crate weapons, corrupted attachments, and EVO shield boosts for your squad. It's a time-sensitive endeavor, and nearby enemies will hear the alarm.
Revenant and Lifeline are also receiving buffs. For Revenant, there's a shorter Ultimate cooldown and a faster Tactical, along with new upgrades that allow him to extend his Ultimate with each knock. Another upgrade lets him Silence players with Shadow Pounce.
Lifeline gets a reduced drone cooldown, self-healing while gliding, an Ultimate cooldown reduction, and improved flight mobility. Additionally, Respawn is bringing back her revive shield.
Elsewhere, there are new Ranked updates, including Legend Bans in Diamond lobbies and above. Players vote to ban certain Legends, and those with the most votes cannot be selected for the match.
