Payday: Aces High Brings Four-Player VR Heists to Steam and Meta This Year

An officially-licensed VR game based on the Payday franchise, Payday: Aces High, is set to launch later this year on Steam and the Meta Store. This new title offers four-player cooperative gameplay where players can "execute daring heists in VR using cutting-edge black-market technology and powerful weaponry."

The game's description sets the stage: "After being framed by business magnate Warren Jupiter, players band together to seek revenge through the signature chaotic action of a Payday heist. Customize your loadout by combining weapons, gadgets, and skills to become the ultimate high-stakes thief. Infiltrate locations like banks, museums, and luxury penthouses, scouting each environment before choosing the perfect moment to go loud and secure your payday."

While no specific release date has been announced, Payday: Aces High is currently scheduled for a late 2024 release.

In related news, Vice Studios has acquired the film and television rights to the Payday franchise, potentially bringing characters like Chains, Dallas, Hoxton, and Wolf to screens. Former Starbreeze CEO Tobias Sjögren, who left the company in 2024 following Payday 3's troubled launch, previously told GamesIndustry.biz in 2023 that a Payday adaptation would be a "perfect fit," suggesting it could delve deeper into the backgrounds of these iconic characters.

This development follows IGN's review of Payday 3, which scored a 'Good' 7/10. The review noted: "Payday 3 represents a solid advancement for my favorite heist simulator series, though the progress is more modest than expected due to content limitations and the predictable yet frustrating bugs and performance problems. I simply wish there had been more content available from the start and that Starbreeze had leveraged its years of experience to deliver a more polished and stable launch."
