Sucker Punch Productions has confirmed that the Legends multiplayer mode for Ghost of Yotei will not receive any more major updates after its initial launch in March. Lead designer Darren Bridges announced the end of online support for the 2025 PS5-exclusive sequel in a PlayStation.Blog post. The post primarily details the changes brought by the new Raid update, which launched on April 10, but notes that this content-packed patch is the last major update for the online mode.
"The Raid update was our last major planned update for Legends," Bridges said. "It finishes the story of the Yōtei Six in that mode. We’ve loved to see players playing it, continue to play it and enjoy it. It’s been great."
Ghost of Yotei launched for PlayStation 5 on October 2, 2025, with Sucker Punch announcing plans to add Legends as a free DLC in February of this year. It was released on March 10. The reason for ending support for major updates just two months after launch is unclear. While major content updates are ending, Sucker Punch did not specify how long Legends will receive smaller patches for bug fixes and balancing.
This news is surprising given that Sucker Punch supported the Legends mode for Ghost of Tsushima long after its October 2020 launch. For example, December 2020 brought PlayStation-themed skins based on Bloodborne, God of War, and more. In August 2021, the studio announced a standalone version of the experience, which included a new game mode called Rivals when it launched in September.
Ghost of Yotei was a popular PS5 exclusive, with Sony stating in February that it "significantly" contributed to its financial results. We gave it an 8/10 in our review, calling it "a predictable but well-executed story" with "gorgeous landscapes and satisfying, fluid action" that "may not be revolutionizing open world games, but it's a great distillation of the samurai fantasy."
