The Battlefield 6 team has responded to player criticism over two controversial cosmetic items introduced in Season 5. Battlefield Studios posted on its official Discord server to explain the background of the two skins that caused a stir when Season 5 launched last week (via MP1st). The message confirmed that at least one issue will be fixed, while the other appears to be intentional.

The cosmetics in question—one featuring what seemed to be a typo in the word "security" and another showing an infantry character with five pistol holsters—were added on October 13 and quickly drew ire from fans. The misspelling, which appeared as the non-existent word "secuty" on the armband of a McNeil skin, will be corrected when Battlefield 6 Season 5 launches in November, according to the developers.

"You called it out clearly, and we hear your concerns," the message read, acknowledging the memes and discussions surrounding the new skins. "To be completely frank: Items that miss the mark like this do not reflect the quality standards you expect from us, or that we set for ourselves. We take pride in the craft of our world and our gear, and seeing visual oddities slip through is frustrating for everyone. We are currently examining our internal processes and workflows to pinpoint how these issues occurred and to see how we can tighten our quality control process going forward. Thank you for holding us to high standards."

This quick acknowledgment and promise of a fix should ease some community concerns. However, the communication from BF Studios and EA did not address how the typo occurred or whether there is any truth to the generative AI accusations made by fans.

The other cosmetic that caught fans' attention was the Midnight Mirage skin with its five pistol holsters. It felt excessive, and its release alongside the typo skin didn't help. Battlefield 6 players have been discussing the game's outfits since its launch last October, so an outfit like this was bound to draw attention. However, according to BF Studios, that design was not a mistake at all.

"This is an intentional creative concept—a nod to over-the-top action movie tropes where an operative inexplicably has another backup weapon strapped to every spare inch of gear," the message explained. "That said, we understand how this could look unintentional when released alongside other cosmetic anomalies."

That seems to be the end of the discussion surrounding Midnight Mirage, so don't expect any of those pistols to be removed anytime soon. The team signed off by promising to keep an eye on community feedback in the future.

"As we continue to try out new ideas to see what interests the community, you help us continue to evolve our cosmetics in Battlefield," they said. "Thank you for your continued feedback and support."

Battlefield 6 Season 5 launched last week and, like previous seasonal content drops, will roll out in three waves. The first wave is already live and added the Vegas Strip and Area 51 maps, as well as a Dead Space crossover. The new map European Casino will arrive alongside a new event and tools on November 10. December 8 will see map updates for Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City, with more content and changes also on the way.

IGN gave Battlefield 6 multiplayer an 8/10 review, saying, "With well-layered action and dynamic destruction, Battlefield 6’s multiplayer hits in all the places where it counts most."
