Arc System Works has issued an apology for the problematic PC launch of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, acknowledging that rebuilding player confidence will be an uphill battle. In an interview with VGC, producer Takeshi Yamanaka reflected on the game's release, noting that while the content has been well-received by fans, the same enthusiasm isn't shared across all platforms.

"They're playing matches every day, they're in training mode, they're coming up with new combos, and we see them posting those on social media," Yamanaka said. "However, at the same time, unfortunately, in the PC version of the game, there have been in-game issues experienced by many players, which we really apologise to the player base for all of these problems."

Marvel Tokon launched with tag-team gameplay on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on August 6, 2026. While critics largely praised the game—IGN gave it a 9/10—PC players took to Steam to voice their frustrations.

Within 24 hours of release, the game's Steam reviews plummeted to "Mixed" as players reported stuttering issues and a forced PlayStation sign-in requirement. The weekend following the PC launch was marred by ongoing negativity, with the studio's only response being a promise to "investigate" reports of "performance issues." The situation became so dire that prominent fighting game community content creator Maximilian Christiansen (also known as Maximilian Dood) uninstalled the game live in front of thousands of viewers.

Arc System Works quickly pushed out an update the following Monday, addressing many of the reported performance problems. While Steam reviews have since improved slightly, it's clear that both Marvel Tokon and the studio have a long road ahead.

Yamanaka mentioned that "the team is hard at work to continue working on resolving remaining issues," referencing two patches that have been released since the early August launch. He also admitted that getting the game into tip-top shape is only part of the challenge.

"I do think that it's an extremely challenging task that we need to undertake," he said when asked about regaining trust. "We sincerely want to put all of our effort forward to create an environment where the players can experience this game that we've worked so hard to create, and that we do have a lot of confidence that the game itself will be really fun for them."

Yamanaka again apologized for the PC version of Marvel Tokon, which "created a lot of trouble for the players." He and the team hope the community will stick around not only for the upcoming fixes but also for the game itself.

"I would like to just say that I truly appreciate every single player who purchased the game around the launch," he added. "And to some players on the PC who were kind enough to purchase the game, but then they experienced these issues and were unable to play the game in its best way, and maybe left the game for the moment or even refunded. I would just like to express my sincere apologies for all of those issues that they've experienced."

He continued, "I do feel that it will not be an easy task at all to regain the trust that we've lost from this. However, this is an issue that we're facing head-on, and we're trying to tackle it directly to try to continue working with all that we have and to provide an environment where players will be able to smoothly experience the game."

The producer concluded, "I feel that is the most that we can do. As additional updates are launched, all we can do is do our best and pray that that sentiment will reach the player base."

Regardless, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls is just getting started. DLC content is confirmed to be in development, with Phoenix Cyclops already announced as a playable character set to join the roster this fall. Dataminers also uncovered five more potential fighters earlier this month.
