Full Circle, the studio behind Skate, has issued a statement about community mods after a fan-made modding platform called ReSkate went viral.

ReSkate launched about a week ago, letting fans play the game offline, set up private servers, create custom maps, and more. It's already been downloaded over 350,000 times on GitHub, and its creators are fully aware they might get a cease-and-desist order.

So far, no legal action has been taken, but Full Circle isn't staying silent either. On October 9, the developer acknowledged the importance of community mods while drawing a firm line against those that bypass paid cosmetics or profit from new features.

"Skateboarding in general is built on community and creative expression, and we support that. We love seeing your passion for pushing the limits of San Vansterdam in different ways. That's why we built our new skateboarding sandbox in San Vansterdam to begin with, to give you, the players, the tools you need to have fun and create amazing content," the statement read.

"To be completely clear, we are not against creativity from players or stopping that from happening. Where we have to draw the line is when mods or other tools bypass our systems to unlock paid cosmetics, release gated/unreleased content, or profit from these unauthorized assets. That rips off the artists, skate brands, and creators, as well as our own development team here at Full Circle, who work hard to bring skate culture into our game."

Full Circle went on to confirm that it's aware players want "more freedom and custom features," and revealed that it's currently building "official, secure access tools that enable broader, deeper community creation." More details will be shared at a later date.

ReSkate's popularity is undeniable; after its release, Skate's playerbase saw a massive jump in active players, peaking at over 7,000 players on October 5 — the highest it's been for months after the game's launch in September 2025.

Speaking with PC Gamer, the developers of ReSkate admitted that they "honestly didn't realize how big this was going to be," saying they were "just doing it for the love of the game."

They also told the outlet that they are prepared to take ReSkate down if EA's lawyers come knocking, which many fans are already assuming will happen at some point down the line. For now, though, ReSkate remains alive and well, and it has seemingly spurred Full Circle into taking action to give the game more community-friendly features.
