Ubisoft has announced a real-world treasure hunt tied to Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remastered, with a $500,000 prize hidden somewhere in the Caribbean. The bounty consists of specially minted solid gold coins worth $350,000 and a rock crystal skull adorned with a red opal jewel valued at $150,000—a nod to the game's mysterious artifact. Dubbed 'The Lost Treasure of Edward Kenway,' after Black Flag's pirate-turned-Assassin protagonist, the prize is available to anyone who solves an elaborate hunt featuring 15 complex riddles. While the puzzles are Black Flag-themed, no prior knowledge of the game is required.
The event is a collaboration with Unsolved Hunts, a real-world treasure hunt company that previously offered a similar challenge leading to a €250,000 replica of King Arthur's sword Excalibur. Access to the clues requires a purchase, with game bundles starting at £31 (around $41). Higher tiers include physical clue sets and trinkets, up to a £177 ($240) Pirate Lord Pack edition.
If you're worried about missing the Black Flag Remastered launch while digging in the Caribbean, don't fret—pre-orders start now, but full access begins November 9. And if that conflicts with GTA 6, relax: the puzzles are designed to take 'two to five years' to solve. Teamwork is encouraged, but one person must be nominated to receive the prize (they can choose to share or not). All puzzles can be solved remotely, so hold off on booking flights, but the actual treasure is in the Caribbean, so check your passport.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag Remastered launches July 9 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, with a $200 Collector's Edition featuring an Edward Kenway statue.
