Capcom is celebrating another major sales milestone for Resident Evil Requiem, with the game's director receiving two giant cakes to mark the occasion. Since its launch last month, Resident Evil Requiem has sold over 7 million copies, up by a million from the last official count in mid-April. The game has been breaking franchise sales records since release, selling an impressive 5 million copies in just five days—making it the fastest-selling Resident Evil game ever.
Director Koshi Nakanishi shared the latest achievement on his Instagram, showing staff celebrating with two towering Resident Evil Requiem-themed cakes. One cake, themed after Leon, features black icing, blueberries, raspberries, and a biscuit-based topper shaped like Leon wielding a pistol, along with a decoration of his trusty hatchet. The second cake, featuring co-protagonist Grace Ashcroft, has white frosting and a decoration of a zombie's hand reaching out from the second tier. Messages on the cakes read: "Welcome to 7m Leon!" and "Grace Congratulations on 7 million!"
Fans have plenty more to look forward to, including a mysterious content update next month that players expect to add a new version of The Mercenaries mode, especially after a datamine revealed tense new music. A full story DLC is also in development, though its release is further off. Capcom's success with Resident Evil Requiem is well-deserved—it's a fantastic game that IGN gave a 9/10, calling it a game that "successfully splices two separate strains of survival horror together into the one highly infectious new mutation."
