Nintendo has announced the release date for its Resident Evil Requiem amiibo figures, revealing a lengthy wait for fans despite the game launching today. According to a new post on Nintendo's website, the Grace Ashcroft and Leon S. Kennedy amiibo will be available on July 30, which is still five months away.
No explanation has been given for the delay, and images released today show the same designs that previously drew fan criticism, particularly for Leon's simplistic appearance. This timing might hint at new Requiem content arriving in July, or perhaps Nintendo is confident fans will purchase the amiibo regardless.
While amiibo figures for third-party games are less common than those for Nintendo's own titles, they are not unprecedented. Examples include tie-in amiibo for Dark Souls and Diablo, and Nintendo is also creating one for Capcom's upcoming game Pragmata.
In other news, Nintendo has released a day-one update for Resident Evil Requiem, containing several fixes that players should install before starting the game. Despite being available for only a few hours, Requiem has already become Steam's biggest launch for a Resident Evil title. Players are currently tackling a complex in-game mystery that has proven more challenging than any previous entry in the franchise.
IGN's review of Resident Evil Requiem praised the game, scoring it 9/10 and describing it as "like the result of an experiment conducted in an underground Umbrella Corporation lab, successfully splices two separate strains of survival horror together into one highly infectious new mutation."
