Diablo 4 players have finally uncovered the game's secret cow level, but not everyone is thrilled with what they found.
For those unfamiliar, the secret cow level has a long history in the Diablo series. It started as a rumor about a hidden level full of demonic cows in the original Diablo, which turned out to be a hoax. Blizzard found the idea amusing and later made it a reality in Diablo 2. Since then, each installment has featured an elaborate Easter egg to unlock a cow-filled dungeon, rewarding players with loot.
Players have been hunting for Diablo 4's version for years, and now YouTuber LoatheBurger has shared a step-by-step guide. The process is complex and wasn't possible from the start—it required a clue from the latest expansion, Lord of Hatred. Once that dropped, players could finally access the cow island and open a portal to the secret level.
Inside, players face hordes of angry cows and a boss called the Cow King. Defeating them yields loot, including the Cow King's crown, which grants comical cow-themed perks that change daily. For example, equipping it on a Friday gives +10.26% "moobility" damage while "mooving."
Despite the effort, some players find the dungeon underwhelming. One Reddit user commented, "I'm a little disappointed after seeing the level. Given the amount of effort this took to reach (seriously, kudos) I did expect something a little more... idk, wacky? D3's Whimsyshire was just such a stark contrast to the rest of the game."
It seems odd that such a small area with killer cows required a three-year wait. If the payoff isn't grander, why stretch it out? Still, at least fans can now rest easy knowing the demon cows have been defeated.
