Sony Files Trademark for Mysterious New Game 'Break In'

It looks like PlayStation might be gearing up to unveil a new game called Break In. A recent trademark filing, spotted by a ResetEra user, appears to reveal the title of an upcoming PlayStation title. While the filing doesn't provide many details, some speculate it could be a rebrand for Fairgames, the troubled live-service game from Haven Studios. Fairgames is an online third-person shooter centered on planning and executing heists, so Break In would be a fitting name.

Bloomberg's Jason Schreier also chimed in on ResetEra with a cheeky comment, stylizing Break In as "Br€ak In," referencing Fairgames' own stylized title, Fairgame$. This joke only fueled fan speculation. Fairgames has had a rocky development, with reports of concerns during testing and the departure of key talent, including studio founder Jade Raymond and creative director Daniel Drapeau. The team has yet to release a game, raising eyebrows.

Fairgames has faced increased scrutiny since 2023, as the perception of live-service games has shifted. The disastrous launch of Concord has many fearing a similar fate for Fairgames. It's possible that a rebrand or internal reboot is underway to change that perception.

Regardless, the timing of the trademark filing seems intentional. PlayStation is hosting a State of Play on June 2, which will also be screened at free events at Alamo Drafthouses across the U.S. The show is scheduled to be over an hour long, so there will be plenty of announcements. With it being years since we last saw Fairgames, now might be the time to start promoting it again ahead of a release. Even if Break In isn't Fairgames, the timing of the trademark suggests it could appear at the event.
