Stalker 2's Massive Free 2.0 Update and First Major Story Expansion Launch Together

Stalker 2 not only has a release date for its first major story expansion, but also for its huge free 2.0 update. Ukrainian developer GSC Game World announced that Stalker 2: Cost of Hope will launch on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5 on August 20, 2026. Here's the official description: In Cost of Hope, players once again step into the role of protagonist Skif as a mysterious PDA signal draws him into events unfolding alongside the main game's story. GSC Game World has promised dozens of hours of content. The 2.0 update, meanwhile, upgrades the game to a new version of Unreal Engine 5 (from 5.1 to 5.5.4), bringing new content and improvements. The developer hasn't shared many details yet but promised to deliver more information soon. After a series of understandable delays, Stalker 2 launched on PC and Xbox Series X|S in November 2024, as well as on Game Pass, and was released on PlayStation 5 a year later, in November 2025. It was a sales success, hitting 1 million copies in two days and surpassing 6 million players so far.
