Tomb Raider: Catalyst, Warhorse's Next Kingdom Come, and Darksiders 4 All Slated for Release by April 2028

Embracer Group has provided updates on several of its upcoming titles, narrowing down release windows for some major games.

According to Embracer Group CEO Phil Rogers, Tomb Raider: Catalyst, the next Kingdom Come game from Warhorse Studios, and Darksiders 4 are all expected to launch during the 2028 fiscal year. This means, as things stand now (and we all know how game development can be unpredictable), all three high-profile games will be out by April 2028, since Embracer's fiscal year ends on March 31. However, they won't arrive before April 1, 2027, when the next fiscal year begins.

Speaking of the current fiscal year, Metro 2039 and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis are both slated for release in February 2027, with confirmed dates. For those wondering, Legacy of Atlantis is a remake of the original Tomb Raider built in Unreal Engine 5, while Catalyst is a brand-new entry in the long-running franchise.

Embracer noted that momentum for Metro 2039 is "strong," having reached 1 million wishlists faster than any title in Embracer's history. "Wishlists continue to grow ahead of expectation," the company added, which bodes well for 4A Games' first-person horror shooter.

Warhorse isn't just working on the next Kingdom Come game; it's also developing a new title set in Middle-earth, a property Embracer owns. "It was a truly exciting moment for our teams to see how the news resonated with fans across the globe," Embracer said. "It offered a glimpse into the potential for our IPs and our studios if we do things right." No release window has been given for that project.

Indeed, details are scarce. When Warhorse announced the game, it was described as an "open world Middle-earth RPG," leaving unclear which era of Tolkien's fantasy setting it will explore. However, it seems likely to follow the template established by the studio's hugely popular Kingdom Come: Deliverance series; the Middle-earth team is led by Viktor Bocan, who served as design director on Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

Fellowship Entertainment, which Embracer is in the process of spinning off, owns and operates the intellectual property rights for Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, and Tomb Raider, along with other IPs such as Darksiders, Dead Island, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Metro, and Remnant, among many others.

In the short term, the recently delayed real-time strategy game Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 is now set to launch in December 2026.
