Bethesda Game Studios has released patch notes for its Fallout 76 Infestations update, revealing plans to launch a "next-gen update" for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S this summer. The studio shared full details for the post-apocalyptic online RPG on its website today. Buried within the usual breakdown of new and fixed content is confirmation that PlayStation and Xbox players will soon get a full next-gen update. Unfortunately, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions don't have a firm release date yet, but Bethesda hasn't left players with just a tease. Testing for the long-awaited next-gen updates is confirmed for June, with the full launch set to follow "later this summer." "Available to everyone who owns Fallout 76," Bethesda explained, "you will be able to download the Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 test versions from the Xbox and PlayStation Stores. Once testing is completed, we plan on releasing the update later this summer!" Fallout 76 first launched for PC, PS4, and Xbox One in 2018, but instead of a full next-gen update with the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S in late 2020, Bethesda focused on supporting existing platforms. This decision has left PS5 and Xbox Series X|S players hoping for news as we approach the sixth anniversary of those consoles. Some have commented that the "next-gen update" teased in the patch notes isn't so next-gen anymore, but Bethesda still promotes it as worth waiting for. The full list of expected features is below. The rest of the patch notes detail how players can clear Infestations across Appalachia for unique rewards. The update also launches Season 25, which includes the Deathclaw C.A.M.P. Pet. Seasonal fish for new recipes will join on June 23. IGN gave Fallout 76 a 7/10 in 2024, up from 5/10 in 2018. Fallout TV show-themed content earlier this year sparked debate over a $30 in-game armor piece. Read the full patch notes below.
