Vincent D’Onofrio Stands Up for Laufey Star Deborah Ann Woll Against Trolls Complaining About Armor Sets Not Showing Enough Skin

Emmy-nominated actor Vincent D’Onofrio has unexpectedly entered a spat with a self-proclaimed 'gooner' over Deborah Ann Woll's role in God of War Laufey.

The upcoming God of War game is highly anticipated, focusing on Laufey, Kratos' second wife and Loki's mother in Norse mythology.

In today's social media landscape, it's hardly shocking that this alone has stirred up online outrage—but the controversy has grown loud enough to catch the attention of other A-list actors.

Recently, the discussion has moved from Deborah Ann Woll's in-game portrayal of Laufey to her special armor sets in the game. A Twitter/X user named 'Geralt of Goonia' claimed that Sony's Santa Monica Studio 'would rather go bankrupt than give you an ounce of female attractiveness,' specifically criticizing how much skin the armor sets cover.

Surprisingly, Vincent D’Onofrio—who starred alongside Woll in Netflix and Marvel's Daredevil—jumped into the conversation to defend his co-star and express his excitement to play the game with his son when it launches this February.

'Not that you asked, but… In no way do I agree with you,' he wrote. 'Deborah is beautiful and extremely talented. She is as smart as a whip and a complete nerd. Also incredibly kind. How perfect she is! And a good friend. I am a fan of God of War. I, for one, cannot wait to play the new game with my son.'

Despite being put in his place by Kingpin himself, Geralt of Goonia continued his rant, sparking a wave of humorous responses and memes from players defending Laufey and sharing D’Onofrio's enthusiasm for the game.

Laufey has been a hot topic among notable figures in gaming and entertainment lately; original God of War creator David Jaffe called the game 'stupid' during a recent livestream and accused creative director Ariel Lawrence of lacking passion for the project. (He later clarified his remarks in a tweet and defended Lawrence from the harassment campaign that ensued.)

Earlier, The Last of Us director Bruce Straley cited Laufey as an example of AAA games that failed to 'excite' him, though he too clarified and apologized for bringing 'uninvited and unnecessary negative attention' to the title.

Woll, for her part, hasn't let the negativity affect her. Speaking with a fan at Florida Supercon in July, she expressed confidence that Laufey is a fantastic game, which has helped her avoid being impacted by online trolls.

'Genuinely, I thought I was going to be much more offended by it, but one, I'm not on social media, so that helps, and two, I don't know, I feel totally unbothered,' Woll said. 'Because I just know it's great. It's okay if it's not your cup of tea, but in no universe is it bad.'

God of War Laufey releases on February 16, 2027, exclusively on PlayStation 5.
