Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2's highly anticipated Techmarine update has officially launched across all platforms as part of patch 12.0. This major release introduces the new Techmarine class, a fresh melee weapon, an additional Operation, downloadable content, and various balance adjustments.

The Techmarine stands out as the centerpiece of this update. As the first new playable class since the game's explosive third-person action debut, it features a unique Servo-Gun ability that locks onto enemies within line of sight and fires automatically while the Techmarine engages in melee or ranged combat. Players can also wield the new Omnissian Axe, which delivers devastating damage to single targets with standard attacks and to surrounding foes with heavy finishing moves.

Game director Dmitry Grigorenko expressed enthusiasm in a post on publisher Focus Entertainment's website, stating, "We hope you will really like the new class. We've tried to make sure that this class plays differently from the rest." He also addressed player feedback from the recent Public Test Server (PTS), noting, "We've tried to address most of it, but there are some big changes that we didn't have time to implement. There will be more improvements and perks reworks in upcoming patches."

Patch 12.0 also introduces Space Marine 2's first voice pack, priced at $4.99. This addition has sparked some controversy as it is not included in the Season Pass, disappointing players who expected it in the premium DLC package. The voice pack offers 450 re-recorded voicelines and unique Space Marine Head cosmetics for the Blood Angels, Space Wolves, and Black Templars chapters.

Beyond the Techmarine, the update brings several gameplay enhancements. Techmarines can now locate and activate Sentry Turrets in PvE missions, providing automatic suppressive fire against nearby enemies. These turrets have limited ammo but can be re-awakened by Techmarines to restore supplies. A new PvE healing Equipment called Restorative Stimms encourages aggressive play by restoring health over time.

Customization options have expanded with the ability to pick any face for PvE and PvP characters in Armour Customisation, removing class restrictions. Host Migration support for Siege Mode ensures gameplay continues on a new server after a crash, and players can now customize voices via a Voice Selector in the Armouring Hall.

The update adds 21 new Battlefield Conditions to diversify daily and weekly Stratagems, and players can create private matches with custom Battlefield Conditions, though rewards are disabled in this mode. Three new Heroic Weapons have been introduced, with some included in Season Pass 2 and others available separately.

Balance changes include increased effects for Balanced Distribution from 10% to 15%, and Kraken Penetrator Rounds now boost body shot damage for all bolter weapons by 50%. Grigorenko commented on bolter adjustments, saying, "We hear your feedback regarding bolters doing too little body damage... We will reduce the gap between body shots and head shots. But it's not going to be as easy as applying this perk by default to everybody." He emphasized that aiming for the head will remain optimal for bolter use.

Additional perk updates include Extended Readiness now lasting 5 seconds after deactivation, Ambush forcing stagger on enemies, and Squad Cohesion's effect increased from 10% to 15%. New perks like Strong Strike have been added, while others like Commendation have been removed. Weapon adjustments include damage increases for specific versions of the Bolt Carbine and Gunstrike, and enhancements to the Sanctified Wrath Reliquary.

The patch also includes numerous minor animation fixes, ensuring a smoother and more polished gaming experience for all players.
