Team Ninja, the studio behind Nier and Ninja Gaiden, has announced that Wo Long 2: Wings of Ember, the action-soulslike sequel, will launch on March 4, 2027, for PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S (including day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate), and Nintendo Switch 2. In the meantime, a free playable alpha demo is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, but only for a limited time—from now until September 30.
According to Team Ninja, the demo includes an in-progress character creator and online multiplayer for up to three players. "Fans can explore the open field of Changban, join forces with Liu Bei’s army in fierce battles against the pursuing forces of Cao Cao, and encounter demons inspired by legendary Chinese classics," the developer said. Additionally, players who complete the demo will unlock the Fledgling Phoenix Helmet cosmetic item for use in the full game.
The original Wo Long released in early 2023 and received high praise from our resident soulslike enthusiast Mitchell Saltzman, who called it "among the best in the genre, full stop" when it comes to melee combat. We also ranked it #6 in our top-10 soulslikes list published later that year.
Wo Long 2 was announced at this year's Xbox Showcase.
