Ordering DoorDash Is Too Hard, So an AI Agent Will Soon Order Pizza for You

Ordering food through DoorDash is a prime example of how convenient modern life has become, but apparently, some people still find scrolling through an app too demanding. Soon, you'll be able to simply text DoorDash and have it order food for you without having to decide what you're in the mood for.

DoorDash unveiled this feature earlier this week. The concept is that you'll text an AI agent via iMessage – with Android support expected later – telling it what you'd like for dinner. The AI agent will then scan all the restaurants in your area and offer suggestions based on your past orders and the details in your text.

One example DoorDash gives is asking the bot for your typical Friday night order. It will remember your usual choices, including any customizations you often make. This is already simple to do within the app, which typically shows your recent orders at the top anyway. Ironically, texting a bot for your regular order might require more taps than just opening the app and ordering as usual.

In some ways, this feels like a throwback. SMS ordering existed before smartphones became ubiquitous. Domino's introduced a way to order pizza by sending an emoji back in 2015, according to TechTimes. Though, to be fair, that was just one restaurant.

If you want to eliminate scrolling through an app from your DoorDash routine, you can sign up to test this feature on DoorDash's website, but only if you're on iOS. Android users will have to order food the new-old-fashioned way for a while longer. It's unclear when this feature will exit beta, but either way, ordering food seems poised to get even easier, whether or not it actually needed to.
