Inde Navarrette, breakout star of the horror film Obsession, has gone viral for her past gaming livestreams, including Sony's hit The Last of Us.
Last month, the low-budget horror movie Obsession was released, made for just $750,000 before being picked up by Focus Features. It has since grossed over $200 million at the box office, becoming one of the most profitable films ever. The success launched the careers of first-time director Curry Barker and star Inde Navarrette, who plays a young woman who becomes erratic after a friend wishes for her to fall in love with him.
Navarrette charmed audiences with her performance, but she's also been building a following outside of film. Fans quickly discovered she used to stream games on Twitch, including Call of Duty, The Last of Us, and Outlast, though all videos seem to have been removed from her channel. A YouTube channel under her name appeared earlier this month, uploading her past streams. It's unclear if the channel is hers or someone else capitalizing on her old content, but fans can still check out some streams there.
Her partial playthrough of The Last of Us has racked up over 650,000 views in just three days, prompting a playful response from PlayStation. "We're obsessed," said PlayStation UK's X account.
In a recent interview with GQ, Navarrette discussed growing up with video games and starting to stream in her downtime.
"It’s just something that I really love to do," she said. "One of my first games growing up that we would play, me and my older brother Amani, it’s the only thing we had to do at my Dad’s house. We started on the PS2, and we would play Shrek games in Big Head mode with my mom. And then I would branch off by myself to play campaign games. Me and Amani would play Call of Duty. He was really into Halo. Then we got into Red Dead and like, Fallout, like all of these games.
"I just would play or watch my older brother. And then I built my own PC during COVID and that was really fun to start to get into PC games. It really just took off with me loving watching YouTubers growing up, like Markiplier. So for me, it was like, oh, why not? If I'm not working on a show and I love playing video games by myself and I love playing with friends, then why not stream? It became a lot of fun."
It doesn't seem like Navarrette is active on Twitch these days, which isn't surprising given her busy schedule after Obsession's success. She previously had supporting roles in shows like 13 Reasons Why and Superman & Lois, but Obsession will likely take her to a new level. Whether she'll have time to stream again remains to be seen, but there's plenty of older content for fans to enjoy.
