Marvel's Wolverine Star Liam McIntyre Shrugs Off Harsh Fan Criticism

Liam McIntyre, who portrays Wolverine in Insomniac's latest superhero game, has seen the fans' feedback, but it doesn't bother him one bit.

Marvel's Wolverine is now available to players worldwide, and reactions have been intense, to put it mildly. Over the past month, discussions about the game have been everywhere, with a vocal group of players criticizing Insomniac's art direction, character designs, and gameplay segments shown in media and early reviews.

A central point of contention is actor Liam McIntyre, who brings the titular character to life. Some fans argue he doesn't closely resemble the iconic mutant, while others believe Insomniac's face scans and art style didn't capture his likeness well.

McIntyre has been enthusiastically sharing his excitement about playing Wolverine since his casting was announced, and some players have only recently realized that he's been aware of their social media comments all along.

Responding to one such player, McIntyre joked that he's heard far worse about himself since beginning his acting career.

Indeed, McIntyre played Spartacus in Starz's 2010s miniseries of the same name. The late Andy Whitfield famously portrayed Spartacus in the show's first season, Blood and Sand, but was diagnosed with stage IV non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a blood cancer, before the second season began filming.

After Whitfield's passing in 2011, McIntyre took over the role, which initially sparked strong fan reactions, though many now look back on his time on the show with fondness.

In short, McIntyre is no stranger to vocal fan opinions when stepping into iconic roles previously defined by another actor.
