Warhorse Studios has confirmed that its next Kingdom Come title will be an 'open-world RPG,' with a planned release in the next fiscal year. During a recent livestream, communications director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling and community manager Tom Grey clarified the studio's plans, following an earlier announcement of a 'new Kingdom Come adventure' that sparked fan speculation.
Stolz-Zwilling dismissed rumors of a movie or major gameplay shifts, confirming that the untitled sequel to Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 will indeed be an open-world RPG. While it remains unclear if this is a full-fledged Kingdom Come: Deliverance 3, Grey referred to it as one of two 'proper games' in development.
'We continue expanding the universe of Kingdom Come,' Stolz-Zwilling said. 'Do not forget that Kingdom Come: Deliverance always was and still is and always will be an absolute passion project here in the studio.'
He noted that game director Daniel Vávra is working on a Kingdom Come movie, but the newly announced project aligns with Warhorse's existing games. The other 'proper game' is a new open-world RPG set in J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth.
Stolz-Zwilling also confirmed that Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 lead designer Prokop Jirsa heads the Kingdom Come team, while design director Viktor Bocan leads the Middle-earth team. The latter's release date remains unknown, but the livestream promised that the new Kingdom Come adventure, as teased by Embracer Group CEO Phil Rogers, will launch next fiscal year.
This places the release window between April 2027 and March 2028. Stolz-Zwilling assured fans they likely 'don't have to wait seven years for another Kingdom Come.' Grey added, 'We won't have to wait that long until the next game. That's the aim.' Stolz-Zwilling emphasized, 'But you know how game development works, so this is the plan: next fiscal year. That's where we want to release it, and we will do what we can to achieve that.'
Kingdom Come: Deliverance received an 8/10 from IGN at launch in 2018, while its sequel scored a 9/10 in 2024. As Warhorse moves forward with its projects, the developer has also discussed the difficulty of its games.
