Xbox has announced a delay for its highly anticipated Fable reboot, now set to launch in February 2027. The RPG was originally expected this fall, though no specific date had been confirmed. Citing a packed release schedule—and the looming presence of GTA 6—Microsoft pushed the game to next year.
"This year is packed with incredible games for Xbox players to enjoy, from Halo: Campaign Evolved, Gears of War: E-Day, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to Control Resonant, Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and Grand Theft Auto VI," Xbox wrote on social media. "To plan our holiday launches in a way that works best for players, we’re moving Fable to February 2027 so it can have the dedicated moment it deserves. We’re excited to give players a major new look at Fable and our broader lineup at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7."
The announcement follows speculation last month that Microsoft had internally delayed Fable—a rumor the official Fable account denied, reiterating the fall window. Giant Bomb's Jeff Grubb had reported internal concerns about Fable clashing with GTA 6, which now appears locked to a November 19, 2026 release.
"I've heard Fable has been pushed internally," Grubb said. "That doesn't mean it's coming next year. They're still trying for this year, but they're worried about GTA 6. If it's delayed beyond that, it could slip to December, making it a prime candidate for 2027."
Microsoft has yet to finalize dates for other titles like Halo: Campaign Evolved and Gears of War: E-Day, but fans will likely get clarity at the Xbox Games Showcase. Fable and Gears of War: E-Day are confirmed to appear, along with possible updates on InXile's Clockwork Revolution, Undead Labs' State of Decay 3, and Hideo Kojima's OD. Meanwhile, Activision announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 for an October 23 launch.
