Ubisoft has officially announced Rayman Legends Retold, following earlier leaks. This enhanced platforming remake features completely remade 2D sections with 3D visuals, plus new 3D gameplay segments, as shown in a reveal trailer during today's PlayStation State of Play broadcast. The game launches on October 1 for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S, priced at $39.99.

The trailer also showcased a reimagined story with voiced cutscenes. Musical levels return, though four new ones mentioned by Ubisoft in a press release will differ from the original (RIP Black Betty level). The addictive Kung Foot soccer minigame is back with new power-ups.

"Rayman Legends Retold is our way of revisiting what makes Rayman special and retelling that experience for a new generation," said Ubisoft brand producer Loïc Gounon. "We wanted to preserve everything fans love, and Legends gave us the perfect foundation to expand Rayman's lore, its world logic, and how everything connects."

Rayman Legends is one of the best side-scrolling platformers not starring Mario, and Ubisoft is clearly keen to give it new life. Previous leaks revealed planned crossovers with characters from Astro Bot and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Contrary to rumors, multiplayer remains local-only, not online.

The project was again developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, formerly led by Rayman creator Michel Ancel before he left to work in a wildlife park.

Ubisoft appears eager to revive its platforming mascot after years of inactivity. Earlier this year saw the release of Rayman: 30th Anniversary Edition, and there are rumors of a new Rayman project in the works (with Ancel consulting). When that will materialize is unknown, but another chance to play Legends with new content will keep us busy.
