Marvel's Wolverine is a violent game—that's exactly what developer Insomniac set out to create from the start. The X-Men hero uses his adamantium claws to stab and dismember foes in rage-fueled melee combat, drenching everything in blood. Players will see Wolverine suffer detailed body damage, his flesh tearing to reveal his adamantium-laced skeleton. This game isn't for the faint of heart. But if the gore isn't your thing, you can turn it off.
In an interview with IGN before Wolverine's appearance at Sony's State of Play showcase, game director Mike Daly confirmed a "nuanced" accessibility feature that lets players censor the gore.
"We know that it's not for everyone," Daly said of the extreme violence. "And because we knew this was going to be a big part of the game from the beginning, we also implemented an accessibility feature to turn off gore. It's clearly integrated into the game in a lot of different ways, and so it's a nuanced feature that is very selective about what we show, what we censor, turning off blood and things like that, just in order to make it more palatable to people who don't really want to have that part of the experience."
So if you want to tone down the violence in Marvel's Wolverine, you can. Be sure to check out our full interview with Insomniac to get a sense of how the game actually plays.
