Developer S-Game has announced a delay for Phantom Blade Zero, pushing its PC and PlayStation 5 release back by nearly two months. CEO and creative lead Soulframe shared the news on the studio's X/Twitter account, offering "sincere apologies" following the game's appearance at today's State of Play June 2026 presentation. The action-RPG, a PS5 console exclusive, will now launch on October 29, 2026, instead of September 9, 2026—a 50-day delay.
"First of all, I want to offer my sincere apologies to all the players who have been following and supporting us," Soulframe said. "This was not an easy decision. More than anyone, we understand the expectations our players have placed on us. And precisely because of those expectations, we do not want to release Phantom Blade Zero knowing there is still an opportunity to take it one step further."
Soulframe explained that the team saw "one final opportunity" to make "another meaningful leap forward" during the final polishing phase. This includes upgrading character models, reworking environments, and "preserving as much of this visual impact as possible even without relying on ray tracing." While acknowledging that ray tracing could improve visuals, Soulframe emphasized that the studio's primary goal is to "make sure the core look, atmosphere, and intensity of Phantom Blade Zero come through at full force for as many players as possible."
The message continued, noting that while the delay to late October "cannot solve everything," it will give the team "enough time to complete a number of clearly defined and genuinely important improvements." The schedule change aims to deliver Phantom Blade Zero as a strong experience right from launch. S-Game wants to give fans "the best version of Phantom Blade Zero we can deliver from the very beginning."
"I am truly sorry for the delay, and I want to thank everyone who has continued to follow and support Phantom Blade Zero," Soulframe added. "This summer, we will have much more to show you. I believe every extra day of waiting will be worth it."
During the State of Play showcase, S-Game confirmed that pre-orders for Phantom Blade Zero will open alongside a full trailer this summer. A follow-up message clarified that the trailer will feature "entirely new in-game footage." Additionally, a late-summer State of Play deep dive, announced during Sony's presentation, will run 15 to 20 minutes and highlight "the game’s world, combat, exploration, and character progression systems."
Phantom Blade Zero launches for PC and PS5 on October 29, 2026, and will remain a PlayStation console exclusive for at least 12 months after release. For more from Sony's State of Play June 2026, check out everything announced here.
