The release date for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight on Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been announced. The game lands on the platform on September 18th, and pre-orders are live now. The Switch 2 version will offer a standard edition at $69.99 and a deluxe edition at $89.99, with the latter including extra digital content. Unlike the deluxe editions on Xbox, PS5, and PC, this one won't grant early access, so there's no need to pay extra to play it sooner on Switch 2.

The deluxe edition includes the Legacy Collection DLC, featuring new suits, vehicles, and Batcave items inspired by classic Batman media like the Arkham games and Batman Beyond. It also provides access to the Mayhem Collection DLC, releasing on September 18th, which adds more cosmetics, Joker and Harley Quinn as playable characters, and a new story mission. Those who pre-order the physical edition of the Switch 2 version will receive a LEGO Retro Video Game Batman minifigure.

Confirmation that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is still coming to Switch 2 comes as a relief. Borderlands 4 was also planned for a Switch 2 port, but development was 'paused' around its intended release, raising concerns for other titles. When it was confirmed that LEGO Batman wouldn't launch day and date on Switch 2, some feared it might face indefinite delays. Thankfully, that's not the case, though the timing is unfortunate as the game joins a flood of September releases trying to steer clear of GTA 6.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight was one of May's biggest releases and a highly anticipated spring title, earning widespread praise since launch. We gave it an 8/10 in our review, calling it 'a lovingly made, often hilarious take on both Batman’s movie and video game history alike.'

As of now, it's unclear if there are plans for more LEGO Batman games. The last one was LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham in 2014, with a spin-off, LEGO DC Super-Villains, in 2018. It had been over a decade since the Caped Crusader took center stage in a LEGO game.
