Studio MDHR made a surprise appearance at Summer Game Fest 2026, unveiling two major projects: Mighty Cuphead Adventure and a new hand-animated Cuphead game. Host Geoff Keighley introduced the titles before handing the stage to the indie developer. True to form, MDHR used a puppet show for the grand reveal, showcasing gameplay footage for the pixelated Mighty Cuphead Adventure while teasing that a hand-drawn Cuphead follow-up is in early development. The hand-animated title sounds like a proper sequel to the 2017 original, though the team isn't ready to show it yet. Mighty Cuphead Adventure, however, appears further along, with first gameplay footage revealed. Where the original Cuphead captivated players with its vintage cartoon visuals, Mighty Cuphead Adventure embraces a retro-inspired aesthetic, with Cuphead and Mugman channeling the look and feel of 8-bit arcade games. While the next mainline Cuphead game seems distant, MDHR also didn't announce a release date for Mighty Cuphead Adventure. Its trailer only promised support for "modern consoles" and "personal computers." Studio MDHR's two new Cuphead games kicked off tonight's show.
