Owlcat Games has unveiled a new gameplay trailer for Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy at IGN Live 2026, marking their latest venture into the grimdark universe following 2023's Rogue Trader. Unlike the immensely powerful Rogue Trader, in Dark Heresy you step into the role of an Inquisitor—a detective tasked with unraveling a conspiracy behind a series of disappearances.
Your job involves "searching crime scenes, investigating leads, and collecting evidence," all logged in an investigation journal to help connect the dots. While many games let you play as an investigator, Dark Heresy offers moral flexibility: you can be as upright or as corrupt as you choose. Take the easy route by pinning a crime on the obvious suspect, "closing the file and letting fear do the rest."
Of course, this being a 40K game, violence is inevitable. Owlcat has carried over many combat mechanics from Rogue Trader, but introduces new features like targeting specific body parts to cripple enemies in various ways.
Owlcat Games hasn't announced a release date for Warhammer 40,000: Dark Heresy, but you can wishlist it now on Steam, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
