During today's Nintendo Switch 2 Direct presentation, Square Enix delighted fans by showcasing Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth, which will join its predecessor Remake and finally allow Switch players to catch up with the story on June 3, 2026. We also learned via the Xbox Store that the game will simultaneously launch on Xbox consoles as well.
We've long known that the entire FF7R saga would eventually come to Nintendo platforms. It was only a matter of time. The arrival of Rebirth will essentially enable Nintendo platform players to catch up with the story to the current point, just in time for what we hope will be the announcement and release of the third and final installment of this saga.
Pre-orders for Rebirth on the eShop begin today, with various digital bonuses available for those who take advantage of them.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake first launched in 2020 with incredibly high expectations... and yet it lived up to them. We gave the game an 8/10, saying it 'breathes new life into a classic while still being an excellent RPG in its own right.' The game was initially a PS4 exclusive but later released on PS5 as Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Intergrade, then on PC and Nintendo Switch, and most recently on Nintendo Switch 2.
We also highly praised Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, giving it a 9/10 and noting that it 'impressively builds upon what Remake established, standing as a best-in-class action-RPG full of thrilling challenges and recreating a world that has meant so much to so many people for so long.'
