Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind Control and Alan Wake, has announced Jean-Charles Gaudechon as its incoming CEO. The company's board of directors shared the news via a website post today, with co-founder Markus Mäki continuing as interim CEO until the transition takes effect on March 1, 2026.
In a statement, Gaudechon expressed enthusiasm, saying, "I'm excited and honored to join Remedy at a pivotal time. The studio has a unique creative identity and a strong pipeline. My commitment is to protect what makes it special, deliver exceptional games, and scale Remedy in a way that builds lasting value."
This leadership change follows the resignation of former CEO Tero Virtala in October 2025, a move prompted by the commercial and critical disappointment of the studio's summer multiplayer FPS and first self-published title, FBC: Firebreak, which received a 6/10 review. Virtala had been with the Espoo, Finland-based company for over nine years.
Gaudechon brings extensive industry experience, having served as a studio head and executive producer at EA on projects like Battlefield Heroes, and as a general manager and executive producer for CCP Games, developer of Eve Online. He described Remedy as having "the voice and the ambition to be a pillar of the industry's future."
He added, "We will stay close to players, earn their time and trust, and strengthen our independence in how we build and publish our games, while continuing to work closely with the partners who have supported us along the way. I will be moving to Finland with my family and I'm incredibly excited about getting to work directly with the team at the studio."
Fans of Remedy can look forward to upcoming projects, including the mind-bending sequel Control: Resonant, announced at the 2025 Game Awards and expected to launch this year for PC and consoles. Additionally, remakes of Max Payne 1 and 2 are in development, with release dates yet to be specified.
