Josef Fares, the creative mind behind It Takes Two and Split Fiction, has shared the first behind-the-scenes glimpse of Hazelight Studios' upcoming game. The photo features Fares in a cozy sweater, giving a thumbs-up while standing before three actors in performance capture suits. Notably, Fares' arm strategically obscures the actors' faces, adding an air of mystery to the reveal.
"Next game in the making," Fares captioned the post, accompanied by a thumbs-up emoji. Hazelight Studios' official social media account chimed in with, "We're back in the kitchen, cookin' up something really delicious," and humorously noted the use of "Strategic Arm Placement Tech."
Fans quickly seized on the presence of three actors, sparking widespread speculation about a potential three-player game. Comments flooded in, with users like Spenny99 asking, "Three-player Hazelight Game?" and Jcbartlett25 pondering, "It Takes Three?????" Another fan, hotpicklepizza, added, "It Takes Three lookin great Mr. Fares."
This would mark a significant departure for Fares and Hazelight Studios, whose recent titles have centered on two-player experiences. Split Fiction, released last year, follows writers Zoe and Mio as they navigate intertwined sci-fi and fantasy narratives, earning a 9/10 from IGN and selling over 4 million copies. IGN praised it as "an expertly crafted co-op adventure that pinballs from one genre extreme to another."
Similarly, It Takes Two, focusing on a divorcing couple, also received a 9/10 from IGN, described as "a beautiful, breakneck-paced, co-op adventure that’s bubbling over with creativity." Fares' earlier works include A Way Out, featuring two convicts, and Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, centered on two siblings. If the new project indeed involves three players, it would break from the studio's established pattern of two-character narratives.
