With Sony recently expanding its multiplatform strategy to include PC and even Xbox releases like Helldivers 2 and Marathon, fans have wondered if Insomniac's Spider-Man games might follow suit. However, a direct response from the developer suggests Xbox owners shouldn't get their hopes up.

In a Valentine's Day tweet from Insomniac, a fan inquired about the possibility of Spider-Man making its way to Xbox, to which the developer replied simply: 'Not likely.' This stance might seem predictable, but it's worth noting that Insomniac once declared Marvel's Spider-Man would never come to PC, only for it to eventually launch there after years as a PlayStation exclusive.

Back in 2015, Sony Interactive Entertainment stated the game would remain a permanent PS4 exclusive, but nearly a decade later, Sony now publishes titles on PC, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. Examples include Arrowhead's Helldivers 2, which debuted on Xbox Series X and S with a Halo crossover, and Bungie's upcoming Marathon, set for release on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation. Despite this shift, Spider-Man appears to be a different case, with Insomniac's tweet indicating a thicker barrier to an Xbox version.

In the near term, Insomniac's Marvel's Wolverine is scheduled for release later this year as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, while fans anticipate another Spider-Man game continuing the story from 2023's Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which launched on PC in January last year. Yuri Lowenthal hinted last year that Marvel's Spider-Man 3 will feature Peter Parker's adventures, despite the ending of the previous game.

Sony's strategy contrasts sharply with Microsoft's, which has fully embraced multiplatform releases for most of its first-party games. For instance, Playground's Forza Horizon 6 was recently confirmed for PlayStation 5 after Xbox and PC, making Xbox Game Studios a major publisher on PlayStation. In October last year, Microsoft called single-storefront exclusives 'antiquated for most people,' yet Sony continues to launch its major single-player titles, like Sucker Punch's Ghost of Yotei, exclusively on PlayStation at launch. Multiplayer games, such as Guerrilla's Horizon Hunters Gathering, often debut simultaneously on PS5 and PC, with Marathon's day-one multiplatform release being an exception.
